1. Teaches us about God: The Bible serves as a source of knowledge and understanding about God. It reveals His character, His ways, and His relationship with humanity. Through the Bible, we learn about God's love, His attributes, and His plan for salvation.

2. Teaches us about ourselves and the world: The Bible not only teaches us about God but also provides insights into our own nature and the world we live in. It sheds light on the human condition and our need for redemption. It exposes the reality of sin and its consequences, but it also reveals God's plan for salvation through Jesus Christ. By understanding the message of the Bible, we can recognize our own brokenness and need for forgiveness and restoration. It also helps us understand our identity, our purpose, and our role in the world.

3. Enables us to live godly lives: The Bible provides guidance and principles for living a godly life. It addresses our struggles, fears, and doubts, offering guidance and encouragement. The Bible provides wisdom and principles that can help us navigate various aspects of life, including relationships, work, and decision-making. It offers instructions on how to love and serve God, how to relate to others, and how to make wise choices. By studying and applying the teachings of the Bible, we can align our lives with God's will and live in a way that pleases Him.

4. Facilitates our personal relationship with God: The Bible is not just a book of rules and teachings; it is a means of communication between God and humanity. Through the words of the Bible, we can encounter God, hear His voice, and develop a personal relationship with Him. It is through the Bible that God reveals Himself to us and invites us into a deeper connection with Him. Ultimately, the Bible serves as a source of illumination, shining its light into the depths of our hearts and minds. It reveals our true nature, exposes areas of sin and rebellion as well as of growth and transformation, and offers hope and healing. Through the Bible, we can develop a personal relationship with God and experience His transformative power in our lives.

5. Exalts Jesus and helps us join in that exaltation: The Bible exalts Jesus Christ as the central figure of human history. It reveals His life, teachings, death, and resurrection, highlighting His role as the Savior and the source of eternal life. It shows us that He is the  ultimate expression of God's love and redemption. In fact, it tells us that He is the exact representation of the Father. If we have seen Jesus then we have seen the Father—who He is, how He thinks, feels, and acts. The Bible calls us to exalt Jesus in our everyday lives by following His example, living in obedience to Him, proclaiming His message, and joining in His mission here on earth as His hands and feet.  

6. Prepares us for God-given mission: The Bible equips and prepares us for the mission that God has entrusted to us. It reveals God's purposes for humanity, including the call to share the good news of salvation with others. By studying the Bible, we gain a deeper understanding of God's mission and our role in it. It shapes our hopes, dreams, and actions, guiding us to participate in God's work of redeeming humanity and restoring creation.

The Bible is the world’s most significant story, the story of God’s cosmos-restoring work of redemption. The Bible is a “big picture” book. It introduces us to God, defines our identity, lays out the meaning and purpose of life, and shows us where to find help for the one disease that infects us all—sin. If you try to reduce the Bible to a set of directions, not only will you miss its overall wisdom, you will not make sense of the directions. They only make sense in the context of the whole story.

The Bible invites us to fly above the streets of everyday life to get this panoramic view. It invites us to see how, in God’s plan, everything connects to everything else, and how God’s grace enables us to move from where we are to where He wants us to be. It wants to show us the profound realities we would never understand if we stayed at “street level.” And the Bible invites us into relationship with the One who is the ultimate guide. Jesus sees everything from origin to destiny and leads us where we need to go. The Bible imparts to us a wisdom so complete and practical that it can keep us from getting lost again.
