Axioms on God Being in Control

The Character of Christ

What is an Axiom? An axiom is a statement or proposition which is regarded as being established, accepted, or self-evidently true. It serves as a premise or starting point for further reasoning and arguments. The word comes from the Greek axíōma (ἀξίωμα) meaning, "that which is thought worthy or fit" or "that which commends itself as evident."

Axiom #1 - Control

Until we truly grasp that God is always in control, we will seek to take control by manipulating things and people to go in our favor, towards our (misplaced) desired end goal.

Axiom #2 - Burden

Until we grasp that we must rely on God in every situation, on Him (dependence) and on the Body of Christ (dependence/interdependence), we will put a burden on ourselves and others that’s too great for anyone to carry.

Axiom #3 - Blame

Until we realize that God’s plan and calling are supreme and cannot be thwarted by anyone, we will blame ourselves and/or others for limiting, hindering, or forfeiting God’s plan for our life. People cannot thwart God’s plan.

Axiom #4 - Striving

Until we learn to rest in full trust of God and of His ways and timing, we will strive and strive to the point of exhaustion and burnout, as if it all falls on us to cause things to happen. As a follower of Jesus Christ, we enter into God’s story and into what He is doing. So it’s not ultimately about us or our individual story; it’s about God’s big story and our part in it.

Axiom #5 - God's Work

God can and will work through any and every situation in our life, even every trial, hardship, and suffering, to make us more like Jesus and to propel us into the very center of our calling.

Axiom #6 - Honor

Until we learn to honor and submit to God’s delegated authority (leaders over you in all areas of life), we will most likely be directly fighting God Himself (His direct authority) through rebellion and disobedience.
