The Four Loves Prayer

Devotional Prayers

The Great Commandment

"‘And you shall LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these." - Mark 12:30-31

1. Love God (UPWARD)

And you shall LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength...

SAMPLE PRAYER: Father, help me to love You with my whole being. Cause me to long to be in Your Presence, abiding in Christ, and drawing from Your wells of living water. I want to know You more and to really capture all You have done for me and humanity. Let praise and thanksgiving usher forth from my encounters with You as they reveal who You are Your personality and character, Your greatness and awesomeness. May no other love ever take Your rightful place to be my All in All.

"And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.” - Mark 12:33 NLT

“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” - Psalm 63:1-3, NIV84

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love… No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” - John 15:9, 15

"So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly." - Matthew 6:33 TPT

2. Love People: The Family of God (OUTWARD - The Church)

You shall love your neighbor...

SAMPLE PRAYER: Father, I thank You that You have given me a spiritual family to help me grow more and more into Your likeness. Help me to love them, honor them, and let us speak into each others' lives, so we can be a support to one another in all the ways You designed the Body to be for each other. I pray for honesty, openness and full-disclosureloving accountabilitybetween me and those brothers and sisters you have placed in my life to help me stay in Your path and live out of Your grace and truth.

“So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.” - Ephesians‬ ‭2:19-22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“...Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.... the church submits to Christ... Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish... For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body.” - ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:22-30‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” - Ephesians‬ ‭1:3-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." - Colossians 3:13 NIV

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” - Galatians‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“...submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” - Ephesians‬ ‭5:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

"Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another." - 1 Peter 4:8-10 NLT

Help me to minister to those in need with the power and love You have granted Your servants. I want to be Your hands and feet, displaying Your heart of compassion in tangible ways. And may the way I live my life in how I treat even myself, be one where Your grace abounds. Help me live in blamelessness (shame-free living) as You have forgiven me and freed me for the law of of sin and death. Show me if there is still any area in my life not fully surrendered to You. Reveal any sin or any wicked way in me. Heal any brokenness in me, any trauma, and tear down any walls of self-protection that may still exists. And cause me to live more and more like Jesus lived, free from the things of this world that can cling so closely. Work in me to become unhindered, light and free, that I may love with Your love.

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." - Psalm 139:13-16 NIV
