Follow My Ways
John 14:15 & Isaiah 55:8-9 (& Luke 5:1-11)
by Raimer Rojas
This song tells the story of Peter and, with the direction of Jesus, his great catch (Luke 5:1-11). This song also highlights two key verses, John 14:15 & Isaiah 55:8-9.
original song by Raimer Rojas
verse 1:
Simon and his friends had fished all night
Without a single scaly fish to show, despite
But Jesus spoke to them with a confident dispatch
Put out to deep and let your nets out for a catch
It makes no sense, they thought, for later on we’ll have regrets
verse 2:
Simon knew what Jesus asked was beyond logic
The time and place no fisherman would dare to pick
How can you expect to fish in daylight and deep water?
Unless, this teacher had insight like no other
Yet Simon answered, "If you say so, I’ll let down the nets"
chorus:
If you love me, you will obey My commandments
If you know me, you will trust and follow My ways
verse 3:
When they had done so, they caught a ton of fish
As men of the sea, this had been their greatest wish
Defying practices of experienced fishermen
They came out with the greatest catch there had ever been
But who’s this man who at his command the fish appear?
verse 4:
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell at Jesus’ knees,
"I am a sinful man, go away Lord, I beg you, please!"
Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don’t you be afraid.
From now on you’ll be fishing for men and women instead."
They left their boats, nets and all, and followed him
chorus:
If you love me, you will obey My commandments
If you know me, you will trust and follow My ways
bridge:
For My thoughts are not your thoughts
And your ways are not My ways
For as heaven is higher than the earth
So My ways are higher than your ways
and My thoughts are far beyond your thoughts
chorus:
If you love me, you will obey My commandments
If you know me, you will trust and follow My ways
