Healthy Kingdom Core Values For Prophetic Ministry

by Kris Vallotton (drawn from his book, "School Of Prophets")

We need to assimilate kingdom core values into our lives so that they become the lenses through which we live and minister...

These are just a few examples of the core values that we should carry into our prophetic ministry so that the power of the King and the love of the Kingdom flow together through us. I urge you to search the Scriptures with the help of the Holy Spirit to discover and develop your core values so that your life and prophetic ministry can be firmly founded on Christ's perspective.

1. Prophetic ministry involves looking for treasure buried in the dirt of people's lives.

The price that Jesus paid on the cross determined that value of the people He purchased. God saw something good in us even when we were sinners.

This core value teaches us that while it does not take a prophetic gift to see sin in sinners or junk in the life of Christians, it does require the eyes of God to see broken people and in the midst of their brokeneness, call them by a new name. True prophetic ministry involves looking for gold buried in the dirt of people's lives. Our goal as prophets and prophetesses is to find treasure in the lives of sinners.

2. Jesus did not just die for our sins; He offered up His life because we fell short of the glory of God.

This core value helps us keep in mind that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, and we convict sinners of the glory they fell short of.

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23 ESV

3. Prophecy is for the common good, and the purpose of prophetic ministry is for edification, exhortation and consolation.

This core value trains us to realize why we do what we do as prophets and prophetesses. Edification means "to build up," exhortation means "to call near" and consolation means to "cheer up," so we are to build up, call near and cheer up those to whom we minister.

"But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men." - 1 Corinthians 14:3 NKJV

4. Prophecy brings people into a revelation of the glory of God that God has assigned to them.

This core value trains us to show people the glory that is possible in a relationship with God... Most people know what is wrong with them, but they are unaware of the greatness that God has placed in their lives. This exposure brings conviction in their lives that they are living below the glorious standard that God has set for them.

"But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, 'God is really among you!'" - 1 Corinthians 14:3 NIV

5. God wants to speak to us more than we want to listen.

This core value creates an expectation in our hearts that we may hear Him at any moment.

"'For I the Lord will speak, and whatever word I speak will be performed. It will no longer be delayed, for in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and perform it,' declares the Lord God.” - Ezequiel 12:25 NASB

6. All things work in our favor when we serve God, no matter what the circumstances look like.

This core value trains us to look for and focus on God's redemptive purposes rather than focusing on problems.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28 NIV

7. God loved us before we loved Him, and He never stops loving us. We never have to earn His love through good works.

This core value trains us to focus on His love more than our lack, and to trust that we have an unlimited resource of love to give every person we meet.

"We love because he first loved us." - 1 John 4:19 NIV

8. Fear is not part of God's love and therefore should not be part of our supernatural ministry.

This core value trains us to respond to, rather than to react to, any kind of intimidation of the enemy.

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18 NIV

9. God has plans for our welfare and blessing. He has no plans for our calamity in our lives.

This core value trains us to see difficulties as opportunities for God to bless us and bring us more fully into His purposes for our lives. It also creates an expectation that God will bless us richly so we can be a blessing to others. It prevents us from coming under a poverty mindset.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Proverbs 29:11 NIV

10. We are a special, holy and royal people.

This core value trains us to value others and ourselves as the precious possession of God, for whom He sacrificed His only Son. It fosters a culture of honor in which we treat others as royalty because we are royalty.

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." - 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

11. We are to overcome and overpower anything evil that is against us.

This core value prevents us from thinking of ourselves as victims of circumstance and frees us to think from a perspective in which nothing is impossible [to God]. It enables us to look [to God] for creative and extravagant solutions to problems.

"Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'" - Matthew 19:28 NIV

"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13 NLT

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." - Romans 8:37 NIV

12. The devil is evil, and he is behind all the bad stuff in the world. Jesus is always good, and He does all the great things. We are called to destroy the works of the devil with our supernatural ministry.

This core value keeps the lines of battle clearly drawn so that we are not directing judgment at people, but instead are bringing them the justice that Jesus purchased for them at the cross.

"You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God." - Ephesians 2:2 NLT

"...The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." - 1 John 3:8b ESV

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10 ESV

13. We were born to rule through the power of the Kingdom and the love of God.

This core value enables us to perceive the authorities and the kingdoms of the world from an eternal perspective, so that our faith and intercession are founded firmly on the dominion of Christ.

"And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him." - Daniel 7:27 ESV

14. We are God's friends and He tells us His secrets.

This core value reminds us that God wants us to live in intimacy with Him, far above obedience. He is calling us to move beyond slavery and co-reign with Christ.

"No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you." - John 15:15 ESV

15. Signs and wonders follow all believers, not just a few people.

This core value trains every member of the Body of Christ to think of himself or herself as a carrier of the power of God and as being available for miraculous assignments.

"And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”" - Mark 16:17-18 ESV

16. We have inherited the divine nature, and we grow in the fruit of the Spirit as we hang out with God.

This core value trains us to embrace the journey of maturity as a process of yielding to the work of God within us and keeps us from adopting a striving mentality.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23 ESV

"Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." - 2 Peter 1:4 ESV

"...until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love." - Ephesians 4:13-16 ESV
