Foundational Beliefs For Godly Living

The Character of Christ

Every pursuit to follow God, obey Him, and be led by His Spirit, must have at its core these foundational beliefs. If at the core of our being we do not believe or submit to these, then we will always fall short of all God has for us. Why? Because we will fail to embrace Him as He is. We will choose other things, created things, to meet in us, what only God can (The Creator).

God Is In Control

We are to control ourselves (self-control), and let God, who is fully in control, control the big picture (everything else).

  • "Everything in our lives will fail us; we will fail ourselves. That's why it's only safe to put our lives in the Savior's hands." - Paul Tripp

  • "Take heart today: your Savior actively sits in sovereign control over all the things that confuse, overwhelm, surprise, or disturb you." - Paul Tripp

  • "Remember today that your ultimate identity and security is not in what you're doing, but in what has been done for you by grace." - Paul Tripp

He Is The Source Of All Life

God is to be our source of life. We need to fully depend and trust Him.

  • "Everything in our lives constantly changes except our Savior. That's why our security is only ever found in Him." - Paul Tripp

I Was Made for Relationship With God And People

God made us for relationship, both with Him and with other people. Granted, God is to have the supreme focus, attention, voice, and leadership over our lives, above people. But God uses people, the good and the bad, to shape us and mold us more and more into His likeness.

I was made for intimate relationship with God, to whom I am totally dependent.

  • “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” - St. Augustine

  • "This is the heart of idolatry—taking a good thing and making it a 'God thing.'" - Jeff Vanderstelt

I was made for interdependence with others, especially those in the Body of Christ. At times of major need, I will be dependent on others.
