Small Group Commitment Guide
by Raimer Rojas
Growing together into Christlike maturity
As a small group, we are committed to living out the way of Jesus in our relationships, speech, attitudes, and actions. The following commitments shape how we walk with one another and grow as disciples.
We will remind ourselves that we are all a work in progress. We will not define one another by past failures, but by the redemptive work of Christ taking place in us. We will speak and relate to one another with faith in God’s power to transform lives. Again and again, we will return to this truth as followers of Jesus and members of God's eternal family: “I was changed when I met Christ. I am being changed as I follow Him. And one day, I will be fully changed when I see Him face to face.” In this, we receive fresh hope and grace—for our own lives and for our companions on the journey along the way to become more like Jesus.
SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 5:17, Philippians 1:6, Romans 15:7, Ephesians 4:24
We will not walk away when things get difficult. Instead, we will work through tension, conflict, or disappointment with humility, forgiveness, and perseverance. We will stick it through the challenges and hard times and come out on the other side, wiser, more loving and more connected. Our goal is unity, restoration, and enduring connection.
SCRIPTURE: Romans 12:18, Colossians 3:13–14, Proverbs 17:17, Matthew 18:15–16
We won’t rely on our own strength. We will pursue God together and depend on His Spirit to lead us in how we love, forgive, and live. Prayer, worship, and the Word will fuel our transformation.
SCRIPTURE: John 15:5, Galatians 5:22–25, Matthew 6:33, Psalm 119:105
We will be guided by a grand vision of spiritual maturity, with Jesus as our model and goal. This high calling helps us stay humble, willing to repent, realign, and remain teachable as true disciples of Christ.
SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:29, Ephesians 4:13, Philippians 3:12–14, 2 Corinthians 3:18
Instead of blaming or making excuses, we will take responsibility for our attitudes, words, and actions. We will acknowledge when we fall short and seek to grow with humility.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 7:3–5, Galatians 6:5, Proverbs 28:13, 1 John 1:9
We will speak honestly, clearly, and with kindness. We will listen to understand, not just to respond or defend. We aim to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger—bringing grace into every conversation. We will be committed to loving accountability that is filled with grace, truth and love.
SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 4:15, James 1:19, Proverbs 15:1, Colossians 4:6
Take time to read through these commitments together as a group—one point at a time. After each one, pause to reflect and discuss:
Why does this commitment matter for our group?
Have we seen it lived out before? What difference did it make—or what might have been different if it had been?
What challenges might we face, and how can we help each other grow through them?
Let each conversation be honest, grace-filled, and practical. These commitments aren’t just ideas to admire—they are values to embody, together.
Another practice to use with this guide is to remind ourselves of these commitments regularly, treating them not as boxes to check but as values we are actively pursuing. We need to reinforce them with brief comments, encouragements, and observations—keeping them fresh in our minds as targets we are growing toward, not yet fully arrived. By keeping these practices fresh in our minds they will help us stay aligned, motivated, and aware of the kind of people we are becoming—together.
