Growing together in Christlike love and maturity
As husband and wife, we are committed to living out the way of Jesus in our covenant of marriage—in our love, words, attitudes, and actions. The following commitments shape how we walk with one another and grow as disciples of Christ together.
1. We will see each other through God’s eyes.

We will remember that we are both a work in progress. We will not define one another by past failures, but by the redemptive work of Christ taking place in us. We will relate to one another with faith in God’s power to transform our lives and marriage. Again and again, we will return to this truth: “I was changed when I met Christ. I am being changed as I follow Him. And one day, I will be fully changed when I see Him face to face.” With this hope, we extend grace to ourselves and to one another.

We will not walk away from each other when things are difficult. Instead, we will face conflict, tension, and disappointment with humility, forgiveness, and perseverance. We will endure the challenges and come out on the other side stronger, wiser, and more deeply united. Our goal is lasting love, restoration, and an unbreakable bond.

We will not rely on our own strength to love each other well. We will pursue God together and depend on His Spirit to lead us in how we love, forgive, and serve one another. Prayer, worship, and God’s Word will be the foundation and fuel of our marriage.

We will let the vision of becoming like Jesus guide our marriage. With Him as our model and goal, we will stay humble, quick to repent, ready to realign, and always willing to learn and grow. Our love for each other will reflect our shared pursuit of Christ.

We will not blame or excuse our shortcomings. Instead, we will take responsibility for our attitudes, words, and actions. We will acknowledge when we fall short, ask forgiveness, and grow with humility as God continues to shape us.

We will speak honestly, clearly, and with kindness. We will listen to understand, not just to defend ourselves. We will be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger—bringing grace into every conversation. We will pursue loving accountability filled with truth and grace.

Take time to read through these commitments together as husband and wife—one point at a time. After each one, pause to reflect and share:
Why does this commitment matter for our marriage?
When have we lived this out before, and what difference did it make?
Have we seen another couple live this out? What inspired us about it?
How could our marriage be stronger if we practiced this more fully?
What challenges might we face, and how can we support each other in it?
Let each conversation be honest, grace-filled, and practical. These commitments aren’t just nice ideas to admire—they are covenant values to embody together as we walk out our vows in Christ.
Another way to use this guide is to revisit these commitments regularly, not as boxes to check but as shared values we are actively pursuing. We can remind one another of them in simple ways—with encouragement, affirmations, and gentle reminders—so they stay fresh in our hearts and minds.
These practices are not about perfection but about direction. By keeping them before us, we will stay aligned, motivated, and aware of the kind of husband and wife we are becoming—together in Christ.
