Covenant Commitments for Married Couples

Growing together in Christlike love and maturity

As husband and wife, we are committed to living out the way of Jesus in our covenant of marriage—in our love, words, attitudes, and actions. The following commitments shape how we walk with one another and grow as disciples of Christ together.

1. We will see each other through God’s eyes

We will remember that we are both a work in progress. We will not define one another by past failures, but by the redemptive work of Christ taking place in us. We will relate to one another with faith in God’s power to transform our lives and marriage. Again and again, we will return to this truth: “I was changed when I met Christ. I am being changed as I follow Him. And one day, I will be fully changed when I see Him face to face.” With this hope, we extend grace to ourselves and to one another.

2. We will stay committed when it’s hard

We will not walk away from each other when things are difficult. Instead, we will face conflict, tension, and disappointment with humility, forgiveness, and perseverance. We will endure the challenges and come out on the other side stronger, wiser, and more deeply united. Our goal is lasting love, restoration, and an unbreakable bond.

3. We will seek God first and walk by His Spirit

We will not rely on our own strength to love each other well. We will pursue God together and depend on His Spirit to lead us in how we love, forgive, and serve one another. Prayer, worship, and God’s Word will be the foundation and fuel of our marriage.

4. We will grow toward Christlike maturity together

We will let the vision of becoming like Jesus guide our marriage. With Him as our model and goal, we will stay humble, quick to repent, ready to realign, and always willing to learn and grow. Our love for each other will reflect our shared pursuit of Christ.

5. We will take ownership of our part

We will not blame or excuse our shortcomings. Instead, we will take responsibility for our attitudes, words, and actions. We will acknowledge when we fall short, ask forgiveness, and grow with humility as God continues to shape us.

6. We will communicate the truth in love

We will speak honestly, clearly, and with kindness. We will listen to understand, not just to defend ourselves. We will be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger—bringing grace into every conversation. We will pursue loving accountability filled with truth and grace.
