To understand the Bible rightly, we must recognize that every part of it points to Jesus. This is exactly what Jesus affirmed about the Law and the Prophets. As the divine author of Scripture, God has woven a unified story centered on the gospel of His Son. To miss that gospel in any part of the Bible is to miss God’s intentional design to reveal Christ.
Unlike Discovery Bible Study, which focuses solely on the chosen passage, "The Gospel In All Of Scripture" invites you to draw from your knowledge of Christ and gospel-centered passages to deepen your understanding. Rather than approaching Scripture as if encountering it for the first time, this method encourages you to connect each passage to the fuller revelation of God in Christ. Because of this, it requires some familiarity with the Old Testament, the New Testament, and especially the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), which reveal the life, ministry, and mission of Jesus.
Every Bible study method has its unique approach, focus, and purpose. This one is centered on understanding how each passage fits into the greater picture of the gospel.
How does it show sin, suffering, rebellion, or the need for redemption?
What problems or struggles does it expose?
What does it show about God’s character, actions, or heart?
How does it fit into the Bible’s larger redemption story?
Does it foreshadow Him, reflect His mission, or highlight our need for Him?
How does it connect to His life, death, or resurrection?
How does this passage call me to trust, worship, or obey Him?
What action does this truth prompt me to take?
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. - Luke 24:25-27 NIV
44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” - Luke 24:44-49 NIV
56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.” 57 “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!” 58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” - John 8:56-58
39 "You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life... 45 But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?” - John 5: 39-40, 44-45 NIV

Your response in light of the gospel
By using this tool, we train ourselves to read the Bible as Jesus did—seeing the gospel woven through every part of Scripture. This deepens our love for God’s Word, strengthens our faith, and transforms our walk with Christ.
For a more elaborate experience with this approach, Tim Keller has a Youtube video collection called Discover the Gospel in Every Book of the Bible). His focus is looking at each book in the Old Testament and seeing God’s intentional design to reveal the coming Christ. Unfortunately, Tim Keller passed away before finishing this project but he did cover 14 books of the Old Testament.
