A Treasure Hunt is a unique Christian outreach method where believers seek God's guidance for clues about people who need ministry. The team gathers and reflects on these clues, leading them to specific places and individuals prepared by God to receive His love, healing, and message. This approach emphasizes listening to God and taking faith-driven risks to meet needs and share the Good News.
Pray Together: Before heading out in groups of two or three, pray and ask God for specific descriptions of people, names, locations, and other clues.
Seek Clues: Ask God for clues about:
LOCATION: Surroundings or specific places. Ask God, "Where do You want us to go to find this person/people?" - Examples: rose garden, park bench, water fountain, 7/11 gas station
PEOPLE: Names, appearances, or occupations. "To whom do You want us to minister?" - Examples: man with a blue hat, blind man, woman with a red scarf, a specific person’s name.
NEEDS: What they need prayer for. Ask God, "What needs do You want us to minister to?" - Examples: A person with a bandaged right hand, cancer, knee issues, marriage problems.
MISCELLANEOUS: Anything else that's unusual.
Write Down Clues: Spend a few minutes in prayer, writing down or drawing any mental images.
Share Clues: Share your clues with the group to create a collective mental treasure map. Write all clues on note cards or on your smartphone to bring with you.
Find Matches: When you encounter someone matching your clues, approach them confidently and politely.
Explain the Hunt: Explain that you're on a treasure hunt and that they are on your map. This helps them feel seen and known by the Lord.
Build Rapport: Show the person the list of clues related to them. Tell them that God loves them so much He spoke to you about them so you could come and encourage, minister, and bless them.
Offer Prayer: Ask if you can pray for their needs and any other impressions you had for them.
Use other outreach tools (like sharing your testimony and the Gospel) to bless the person and reveal the God who knows and loves them.
A Treasure Hunt is an effective way to practice listening to God and taking faith-driven risks to minister to those He highlights. It involves seeking God's guidance for clues, finding and approaching individuals, and ministering to their needs with love and honor.
