Pray these prayers over yourself, over specific brothers and sisters in the Lord, and over His Church
The Apostolic Prayers in Scripture provide a powerful, God-ordained way to pray. These prayers are:
1. God-Centered – They focus on God’s character, will, and purposes rather than on problems or opposition.
2. Pre-Approved by God – Since they are recorded in Scripture, we have confidence that God will answer them.
3. Positive in Nature – They emphasize growth in Christ rather than asking for the removal of negative things.
4. Focused and Unifying – They create a shared prayer focus that fosters agreement and unity among believers.
5. Intended for the Church – These prayers are directed at believers, knowing that their transformation will ultimately impact the world.
6. Spirit-Inspired Prayer Models – Prayed by Jesus and the apostles, they serve as biblical examples of how to intercede for the Church.
7. Strengthening the Inner Being – They ask for deep, heart-level transformation, focusing on spiritual growth rather than external circumstances.
"When I pray... I want to talk about more than me and my need; I want to talk to God about God. I want to talk about what the Scriptures say that He wants to do and is really going to do. I want to ask Him from His Word, to express the things that are in His heart here, in my world, amongst my friends. The New Testament prayers of the apostle Paul and others can restrain us not to talk to God mostly about the deficiencies of His church or our own deficiencies, but to talk to God mostly about God. As we reorient our hearts and lives around God's beauty, God's love and God's definition of success, our prayer lives will follow. Our prayer lives can become reoriented from self-focused and task-focused prayers to God'centered, biblical prayers—prayers we pray with affection and confidence that He enjoys us and our very small, weak reach to know Him." - David Sliker
“As I spent the last few decades working in a prayer ministry, I discovered the beauty of God- centered, scriptural prayers that ask for help from a place of growing confidence in who God is and what He wants to impart… The benefit of God-centered, scriptural prayers is in their power to move our own hearts, not the heart of God. That is the divine logic of why the prayers of the New Testament are worded in the manner that they are. They are designed to accelerate the movement of our hearts and capture us with the beauty of who God is, what He is like and what He wants to impart to His people. Praying the prayers of Scripture is one of the gifts God has given us to help us. His prayers, His Word and His commands are all for our benefit and help.” - David Sliker
