We all long for meaning—a sense of purpose and understanding in a world full of pain, brokenness, and uncertainty. The good news of Jesus Christ speaks directly to this longing, revealing that God, the Ultimate Meaning Maker, has created us for a life of purpose and fulfillment in relationship with Him. Here’s how the gospel unfolds in light of this theme:
GOD > HUMANITY > JESUS > OUR RESPONSE > LIVING IN GOD'S MISSION > THE GLORIOUS FUTURE
God, the Creator of all things, brought order out of chaos and infused His creation with beauty, goodness, and purpose (Genesis 1:1-3). He designed the world to reflect His character, and He created humans in His image to live in an intimate relationship with Him (Genesis 1:26-27). As the Ultimate Meaning Maker, He gave us the capacity to know Him, glorify Him, and enjoy Him forever.
Your life is not an accident. God created you with meaning and purpose, designed to flourish in a relationship with Him.
In the beginning, Adam and Eve lived in perfect harmony with God. But when tempted, they chose to reject God’s design and authority in order to “be like God” (Genesis 3:4-6). This act of rebellion—the first sin—brought a catastrophic change to the world. Sin separated humanity from God, disrupted the order of creation, and introduced death, suffering, and brokenness into the world.
Life apart from God is bad news: it leaves us searching for meaning in temporary things that can never truly satisfy, and it leads us into chaos, rebellion, and ultimate despair.
The brokenness we experience in our lives and in the world today is the result of sin—our rejection of God’s good design.
God, in His love and mercy, did not leave us in our rebellion. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to restore what was lost and reconcile us to Himself (John 3:16). Jesus lived a perfect life of submission and obedience to God’s will, showing us the way to live in an abiding relationship with the Father (John 5:19). He is our perfect role model for how to trust, obey, and depend on God.
Yet Jesus didn’t just come to be an example—He came to be our Savior. He took the punishment for our sin by dying on the cross, and three days later, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death forever (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Through His sacrifice, we are offered forgiveness and a restored relationship with the Ultimate Meaning Maker.
Jesus is the way back to God. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He offers us hope, forgiveness, and the purpose we were created for.
God invites us to respond to His gift of salvation by repenting—turning away from our sin and our own attempts to find meaning apart from Him—and believing in Jesus as our Savior and King (Mark 1:15). When we surrender our lives to Him, He begins a process of transformation.
This transformation happens over time as we embrace God’s ways, His timing, and His leadership in every part of our lives. He changes our hearts, renews our minds, and shapes us to become more like Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18). As we live under His reign, we experience the peace, joy, and fulfillment we were meant to have, even in this broken world.
Making Jesus your Lord and King is the path to true transformation, as God works in you to bring you back to the life He designed you to live.
When we follow Jesus and become more like Him, He invites us to join His mission to reconcile all things to Himself (Colossians 1:20). As God transforms us, we are sent out to bring His justice and mercy, truth and peace into the world. We proclaim and live out the gospel, calling others to submit to Jesus and find meaning in Him.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we bring God’s order out of chaos, reconciliation out of alienation and His peace out of rebellion. And we do so as we testify in word, character, and deed that Jesus is the victorious King. We function as image-bearers, helping the world make meaning out of life by pointing to the One who restores all things.
As image-bearers, we share God’s love, truth and saving message, and we demonstrate His justice and mercy, helping others find meaning in Him.
One day, Jesus will return as the triumphant King, and we will see Him in His full splendor. As the ultimate image-bearer, He will restore us and all of creation to the original design God intended. We will live under His perfect rule, in perfect peace and communion, with no more suffering, pain, or tears. The One who laid down His life to redeem us will renew the earth as the New Jerusalem, where God’s people will dwell with Him forever (Revelation 21:1-4).
Until that glorious day, our mission is clear: as disciples of Jesus, we are called to live as His image-bearers, reflecting His love, justice, and mercy in a broken world. In this way, we participate in God’s grand plan to restore His image in us and throughout creation, ultimately fulfilling the purpose for which we were created.
God’s ultimate plan is a restored creation where His people dwell with Him forever.
How to Respond
To receive this gift of ultimate meaning and restoration, take these steps:
Acknowledge that you have been searching for meaning apart from God and that sin has separated you from Him.
Believe that Jesus lived, died, and rose again to rescue you and restore your relationship with God.
Commit your life to Jesus as your Savior and King, trusting Him to transform you and guide you into His purpose (to live in mission with Him in order to help the world make meaning out of life by pointing to the One who restores all things).
Prayer of Response
If you’re ready to return to the Ultimate Meaning Maker, you can pray something like this:
“God, I confess that I’ve tried to find meaning apart from You. I’ve sinned by rejecting Your design and choosing my own way. I believe that Jesus lived the perfect life I could not live, died for my sins, and rose again to give me new life. I surrender my life to You as my Savior and King. Transform me as I follow You, and use me to be part of Your mission to bring restoration to the world. Thank You for giving my life its true meaning in You. Amen.”
Closing
In Jesus, we find the meaning and purpose we’ve always longed for. Are you ready to turn to the Ultimate Meaning Maker as your Savior and King, be transformed by Him, and join His mission to restore all things?
