Listening to Jesus for Others
A Simple, Memorable Practice for Everyday Believers

A Simple, Memorable Practice for Everyday Believers
See → Feel → Respond
When someone shares a burden, we don’t need to scramble for advice or rely on shallow encouragement. Jesus still speaks, and we can listen. Scripture says He strengthens, encourages, and comforts through His people (1 Cor. 14:3). Because we have the mind of Christ (1st Corinthians 2:16) and the Spirit renews our thoughts through the Word (Romans 12:2; 2nd Timothy 3:16), we can look to Him for real help in real moments. God wants to bless His people and He wants to use you to do it.
This practice helps us:
slow down
look and listen for Jesus
respond with God's love, wisdom, and encouragement
stay rooted in Scripture and the character of Christ—rather than opinion
Anyone can learn it. Anyone can do it. And it helps people feel truly seen and loved by God.
From what the Spirit highlights, you may respond with:
A blessing prayer - “Jesus, how can I speak a blessing over this person based on what I already know and see in them?”
A word of affirmation about the good you genuinely see - “Jesus, make me aware of the kingdom qualities I have already seen or heard in this person—qualities worth honoring and affirming.”
A Scripture-based encouragement - “Jesus, bring to mind a verse, passage, or story from Your Word that will reveal Your love, truth, or comfort to this person.”
A prophetic word from the heart of God (tested by Scripture and humility) - “Jesus, help me speak a Spirit-led revelatory word that reaches the heart of this person and blesses them with Your presence, love, and guidance.”
A simple act of love - “Jesus, how can I show love to this person in a tangible way that truly reaches their heart?”
A quiet, steady and comforting presence - “Jesus, help me be present to this person in a way that brings reassurance, safety, and gentle support.”
Each response should build this person up, reflect humility, and point them toward Jesus—not you.
Jesus loves partnering with His people. He doesn’t ask us to be impressive—only available. As we practice See → Feel → Respond, we begin to:
notice God’s presence more often
grow sensitive to the Spirit’s voice
express what is on God’s heart for someone with growing sensitivity and attunement
love others with Jesus’ compassion
experience God working through us in simple, meaningful ways
At its core, this practice is about this truth: God delights to love people well, with us and through us.
