A Prayer for Unity in the Body of Christ

CALL in Christ

SAMPLE PRAYER: Father we were called by You, the one Lord, through the power of Your Spirit. You are drawing us into one faith under the one Lordship of Jesus Christ, to become one Body. You intend for us to work together to equip one another for mighty works of service both in Your Church and in the world - works that You have prepared in advance for us to do. So we pray that You would make us one and empower us to reach such unity in the faith that we may become more and more mature, towards in the likeness of Jesus.

Complete Unity - "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." - Ephesians 4:4-6
The Building Up of the Body; The Equipping of the Body - "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." - Ephesians 4: 11-13
Doing the Works of God in the Church and in the World - "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." - Ephesians 2:10

CARE for Each Other in the Body of Christ

SAMPLE PRAYER: Father, we pray that you would grow us in character, in love, and in service that we may care for each other in the Body of Christ. We ask for the fruit of the Spirit to take root in us that we may display the affectionate love of Jesus to one another, with great humility. Teach us to submit and honor one another, as an outflow of your love for us. May we strengthen, encourage, and comfort each other, as we bear with one another in love.

What it takes:

Humility (Lowliness), Gentleness (Meekness), Patience (Long Suffering), Bearing (Forbearing) one another - "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. " - Ephesians 4:2-3
Affectionate Love - "Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins." - 1 Peter 4:8 - "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." - John 15:12
One Anothers - Accept, love, encourage, and care for one another, spur one another toward love and good deed, etc. (One Another Verses PDF)
Submitting to One Another - "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." - Ephesians 5:21
The Fruit of the Spirit - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." - Galatians 5:22-24
Speaking the Truth in Love - "Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ" - Ephesians 4:15
Singing & Thanksgiving Together - "...be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." - Ephesians 5:18b-20
Teaching and Admonishing One Another Through Scripture - Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts." - Colossians 3:15-16

COMMISSION into the World

SAMPLE PRAYER: Father, may we as a Body understand and boldly step into Your commission for us to make disciples of all nations. We pray that we may work together to be Your witnesses wherever we may live and wherever You may send us. May we join together our resources, our time, talents, and treasures, to bring glory to Your name and to let the whole world know that You are calling them into Your Kingdom.

Our Mission:

Bring Glory to God - "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31
Be a Witness to the World - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." - Acts 1:8
Make Disciples Who Can Make Other Disciples - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." - Matthew 18:19-20
Extend His Kingdom on Earth - "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." - Matthew 6:10
