Building Wisely Upon Christ While Equipping His Whole Body

Over the past thirty years, I have worshiped and served in several wonderful churches. I remain deeply grateful for pastors and leaders who loved Jesus, cared sincerely for His people, and served faithfully according to the understanding and models they had received.
Yet throughout those years, I repeatedly encountered something I could feel long before I could explain it. In one church, Sunday sermons carried almost the entire weight of discipleship. Relatively little was offered to help people understand what a mature disciple looked like, how a person actually grew into Christlikeness, or how ordinary believers could participate meaningfully in forming one another.
I remember wondering: How will people become mature disciples through what is presently being offered?
In another church, I saw spiritually hungry people with genuine leadership potential. I suggested that they could be gradually trained to lead small groups—first by observing, then participating alongside others, and eventually receiving greater responsibility.
Instead, their development remained almost entirely classroom-based. They were gathered to read and discuss a book about Christian leadership. A large midweek Bible study was later created, but meaningful opportunities for these potential leaders to facilitate, practice, receive feedback, and grow through shared responsibility never truly developed.
The book may have contained helpful information. The teaching may have been sound. But leadership is not formed through information alone. People learn to lead by observing faithful examples, participating in real ministry, receiving correction, reflecting on experience, and being entrusted with increasing responsibility.
At the time, I interpreted these situations as separate problems. One church lacked a clear process of discipleship. Another relied too heavily on classroom instruction. Another hesitated to entrust responsibility. Another placed nearly every meaningful ministry under the continuing supervision of a few leaders.
Over time, however, I began to recognize the common thread running through them all: Control loomed in the shadows. It was not always harsh, obvious, or intentionally authoritarian. Often it arose from sincere concerns. Leaders wanted to protect the church, preserve sound doctrine, and ensure that ministry was carried out responsibly without compromising unity.
Yet beneath those good desires there often remained a deep reluctance to trust ordinary believers with meaningful spiritual responsibility.
Leadership had to initiate.
Leadership had to approve.
Leadership had to supervise.
Leadership had to remain closely involved.
Ministry could expand, but control could not be released. People could attend, receive, and volunteer. They could assist with the work of ministry. But they were rarely formed to discern, initiate, and lead—to disciple others and minister responsibly under the leadership of Jesus.
Only much later was I able to name what I had been encountering. I was not primarily seeing a variety of leadership philosophies. I was seeing different expressions of one dominant philosophy: leader-centered, control-dependent formation. It was a philosophy in which ministry began with leaders and was maintained by them. It remained dependent upon their direction and seldom moved beyond their continuing control.
And it produced a painful contradiction. Leaders were reluctant to entrust responsibility because people did not appear mature enough. Yet people could not develop the maturity, discernment, and spiritual responsibility leaders desired because they were rarely given meaningful opportunities to practice them. Without opportunities to exercise what they were learning, growth remained limited. Control was intended to prevent immaturity. But the control itself limited the kind of growth through which maturity develops.
It became a catch-22:
People were not trusted because they were not mature. They did not mature because they were not trusted. The system appeared necessary because it continually reproduced the weakness it claimed to solve.
The issue, however, reaches deeper than control. Control is a symptom of a more foundational problem. The central question facing church leadership is not merely: How much ministry are we doing? Nor is it: How quickly is the church growing? The deeper biblical question is: What are we building upon, and how are we building?
Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3:10–11:
“Like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Paul emphasizes two realities. There is only one foundation. And those who build upon it must take great care in how they build. This means the first responsibility of church leadership is not to build rapidly, visibly, or impressively. It is to: build wisely and biblically upon the foundation of Jesus Christ. Everything else flows from this.
Leadership must continually ask:
Is Jesus Christ truly the foundation and governing center?
Does our ministry philosophy arise from Scripture?
Do our methods reflect the way Jesus formed people?
Are we producing the kind of maturity the New Testament describes?
Are our structures serving the formation of disciples or replacing it?
Are we building something that will endure?
A church may confess Jesus doctrinally while organizing its life around something else. It may be built around a gifted personality. A successful method. A familiar tradition. An impressive gathering. A growing institution. A strong platform. A collection of programs.
These things may serve the church, but none of them can become its foundation or governing center. There is no safe layer between Christ and His church. Leaders do not build upon their vision first and then connect that vision to Jesus. They build directly upon Jesus Christ. The church’s vision, ministry philosophy, and teaching must all emerge from Him. So must its practices, structures, and measures of success.
This is why the compelling vision of Christ and the philosophy of ministry are not secondary leadership concerns. Neither are the way disciples are formed nor the reasons behind that formation. They are foundational concerns.
Leadership can build quickly while building poorly.
It can gather people without forming them.
It can multiply activity without multiplying mature disciples.
It can create dependency while calling it faithfulness.
It can preserve institutional control while limiting the growth Christ intends for His body.
Paul’s warning remains: Let each one take care how he builds.
Paul describes himself and other Christian leaders as servants of Christ and stewards of what God has entrusted to them. That language is essential. Church leaders are not owners of the church. The people do not belong to them. The ministries do not belong to them. The gifts of the body do not belong to them. The mission does not belong to them. Everything belongs to Jesus Christ.
Leadership is therefore an act of stewardship. A steward continually asks: What has my Master entrusted to me, and what does He require me to do with it? This reveals the fundamental difference between control and stewardship:
Control seeks to retain responsibility. Stewardship seeks to fulfill responsibility.
Control asks: What must remain in my hands? Stewardship asks: What has Christ entrusted to my hands, and what does He intend me to place into the hands of others?
This distinction is crucial because faithful stewardship does not always look like holding on. Sometimes stewardship requires guarding something firmly. Sometimes it requires entrusting something wisely. Wisdom is knowing the difference.
The opposite of control is not passivity. It is not carelessness. It is not the removal of spiritual authority. The opposite of control is faithful stewardship under King Jesus. Stewardship includes trust, discernment, and accountability. It also requires wise timing, loving correction, and careful entrustment. A faithful steward does not release everything indiscriminately. Neither does a faithful steward cling to everything indefinitely.
Biblical stewardship has two inseparable responsibilities:
Faithfully guard what Christ has entrusted to leadership.
Faithfully entrust to others what Christ intends His whole body to carry.
The biblical pattern is: Receive → Guard → Entrust not... Receive → Guard → Keep
Paul received truth from Christ. He guarded it faithfully. and stewarded it wisely. Then he instructed Timothy to entrust it to faithful people who would be able to teach others also. The entrusted deposit was not preserved by keeping it within one generation of leadership. It was preserved by faithfully passing it on.
The account of the neglected Greek-speaking widows in Acts 6 offers one of the clearest pictures of this leadership stewardship. A serious problem arose within the growing church. The Hellenistic (Greek) widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. This was not a small inconvenience. It involved matters of justice and care for vulnerable people. It also carried significant cultural tension and threatened the unity of the church.
The apostles did not ignore the problem. Neither did they assume that, because they were the recognized leaders, they must personally take over the entire ministry. They said:
“It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables... and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” — Acts 6:2, 4 NIV
Their response is sometimes interpreted as though caring for widows were beneath apostolic leadership. That cannot be the meaning. Care for widows was profoundly important and deeply biblical. The apostles’ concern was not the value of the ministry but the stewardship of their particular calling.
They recognized that if they abandoned prayer and the ministry of the Word in order to personally carry every emerging need, they would neglect the foundational responsibility Christ had entrusted to them. They refused to allow the urgent to displace the essential. But notice what they did next. They did not merely protect their own role. They expanded the ministry of the body.
They summoned the full number of the disciples and instructed the church to identify seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and wisdom, who could be entrusted with the responsibility. This was not mere task delegation. It was the recognition and release of spiritually mature people into meaningful ministry.
The apostles did two things simultaneously: They guarded the foundation. They entrusted the ministry. Those two responsibilities always belong together. If leaders guard the foundation without entrusting others, they become bottlenecks. If leaders entrust responsibility without guarding the foundation, the church may lose its theological and spiritual center.
Healthy leadership does both. Acts 6 therefore gives church leaders a governing question: What has Christ uniquely entrusted to leadership, and what has He entrusted to His whole body? That question protects leaders from two opposite dangers:
doing too much
neglecting what only they are called to steward
The apostles understood that they could not abandon prayer and the ministry of the Word. But they also understood that they must not retain a ministry that could be faithfully entrusted to others. They did not solve the problem by increasing centralized control. They solved it by clarifying responsibility, recognizing spiritual maturity, and releasing ministry.
The result was significant: “So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. ” — Acts 6:7 NIV
The apostles protected their primary stewardship.
Other believers were entrusted with real ministry.
The needs of vulnerable people were addressed.
The body was strengthened.
The Word continued to spread.
Disciples multiplied.
Acts 6 is therefore not merely a lesson in delegation. It is a picture of how leadership builds wisely upon Christ while activating the whole body.
The central contrast is not between leadership and freedom. The New Testament church needs leaders. It needs biblical teaching, wise shepherding, and loving correction. It also requires accountability, protection, and clear boundaries. The deeper contrast is between two fundamentally different approaches to formation.
In this model, leaders remain the principal source of vision, knowledge, and initiative. Discernment and ministry also remain centered in them.
Leadership creates the ministries.
Leadership determines when ministry happens.
Leadership closely controls who may participate.
Leadership decides how far responsibility may extend.
Leadership remains the continuing center through which nearly everything must pass.
People may attend, receive instruction, and volunteer. They may also assist with ministry, yet their Christian lives remain highly dependent upon what the organized church and its leaders provide.
They learn, often unintentionally, to wait:
for an outreach event before sharing their faith;
for a prayer ministry before praying meaningfully for others;
for an official class before discipling someone;
for a church program before meeting a need;
for leadership permission before responding to something Christ has already placed before them.
The result is a funnel. Ministry flows toward leadership, through leadership, and back out from leadership. Because leaders possess limited time, energy, knowledge, and relational capacity, the funnel eventually becomes a bottleneck. The church can develop only as far as its central leaders can personally initiate, supervise, and maintain.
In this model, Jesus—not church leadership—remains the governing center.
Leaders keep Christ and His way continually before the church.
They ground people in Scripture.
They depend upon the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
They model what they teach.
They create environments where people can observe, participate, and practice. They also make room for reflection, correction, and repeated attempts.
They entrust responsibility progressively.
They remain present as shepherds, teachers, and guardians. They also serve as coaches and sounding boards without making themselves the necessary initiators of every faithful action.
The goal is not independence from leadership or separation from the body. The goal is mature dependence upon Christ within a healthy, mutually ministering church.
The church does not cease to guide people. It guides them toward maturity.
It does not cease to guard. It guards in ways that develop discernment rather than replace it.
It does not cease to lead. It leads people into increasing responsibility under the leadership of Jesus.
The difference can be stated simply:
Control-centered leadership keeps ministry dependent upon leaders.
Christ-centered leadership forms disciples who can live faithfully under the leadership of Jesus.
One retains responsibility at the center. The other equips the whole body to carry responsibility with Christ.
Control-centered leadership often begins with an understandable concern: What happens if people get it wrong? But it rarely gives equal attention to another question: What happens if people are never allowed to learn? When leaders carry nearly all responsibility, ordinary believers remain inexperienced. Because believers remain inexperienced, leaders conclude that they cannot be trusted. Because they are not trusted, they receive little meaningful practice. Because they receive little practice, their maturity remains underdeveloped.
The cycle reinforces itself:
Control produces limited growth.
Limited growth appears to justify more control.
More control produces deeper dependence.
The controlling system appears necessary because it continually produces the weakness it uses to justify its existence.
This does not mean people should be released recklessly. Responsibility should be entrusted wisely, relationally, and progressively. But spiritual maturity cannot develop through observation and information alone.
People learn to pray by praying.
They learn discernment by practicing discernment in Scripture-shaped community.
They learn to lead by carrying meaningful responsibility.
They learn to disciple others by walking with actual people.
They learn to minister by ministering.
They learn faithfulness through faithful action.
Information prepares people for participation. It cannot replace participation.
Jesus did not wait until His disciples were incapable of failure before sending them. He allowed their immaturity to surface within participation. They misunderstood. They competed. They acted impulsively. They sometimes lacked faith. Jesus corrected them, interpreted their experiences, and exposed their motives. He also restored them and entrusted them again.
Their participation was not a reward they received after formation was complete. Participation was part of the process through which Jesus formed them.
When the ministry of Jesus and the teaching of the apostles are considered together, a coherent philosophy of church leadership emerges:
Church leadership is the God-given stewardship of building Christ’s church upon the foundation of Jesus Christ by faithfully guarding what leaders are called to steward and intentionally equipping the whole body for everything Christ has called His people to become and do.
This can also be stated more fully:
The church exists to become a people who increasingly know, love, and obey Jesus Christ together—and, in doing so, become more like Him. Therefore, church leadership exists to build wisely upon Christ by keeping Him continually before His people. Through Scripture and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit, leaders equip the whole body to embody His life, build one another up, and participate in His mission. They also prepare believers to help others do the same.
This understanding begins with Jesus, not leadership. Jesus is...
the foundation
the governing center
the Head of the body
the One the church is learning to know
the One the church is learning to love and obey
the image into which believers are being formed
the King whose mission the church has been invited to join
Leadership does not draw people continually toward itself. Leadership directs people toward Christ. It does not own the people. It stewards their formation. Leadership does not seek to preserve permanent dependence. It seeks maturity. Leadership does not do all the ministry. It equips the saints for the work of ministry.
The first responsibility of church leadership is to build wisely upon Jesus Christ. This responsibility governs every other one. Leaders must ensure that the church’s teaching, culture, and practices arise directly from Christ. Its structures and mission must also remain aligned with Him.
They must continually ask:
What kind of people is Jesus forming?
How did Jesus form His disciples?
What does the New Testament say leadership is for?
Are our methods consistent with our message?
Are our ministries producing maturity or dependence?
Are we building something that resembles Christ?
A leader may build something large without building something faithful. A church may grow numerically without growing into Christ. Activity can increase while maturity remains shallow. Leadership must therefore resist the pressure to build quickly at the expense of building carefully. The first calling is not merely to make something happen. It is to ensure that what is being built rests rightly upon the foundation.
Because Jesus is the foundation, leaders must keep Him continually before His people. They help the church behold who He is, understand what He has done, and recognize the beauty of His character. They also teach believers to submit to His loving reign and see the kind of life into which He calls His followers.
This is more than periodic inspiration. It is the ongoing shaping of the church’s imagination, affections, and allegiance. People need a compelling biblical vision of:
who Jesus is
what life under His reign looks like
what kind of people the Spirit is forming
how His kingdom reshapes ordinary life
how His mission extends into homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities
Without this vision, churches often rely on announcements, expectations, and guilt to produce behavior. Constant activity can then become a substitute for genuine formation. But lasting obedience grows as people learn to see, treasure, and trust Jesus. Leaders do not merely tell people what to do. They continually place before them the One who is worthy of following.
The goal of teaching is not merely informed believers. It is obedient disciples who increasingly embody the life of Jesus. A person may understand prayer without becoming prayerful. A person may affirm evangelism without learning to speak naturally about Christ. A person may study community without learning to confess, forgive, and encourage others. They may understand the concept without learning to bear another person’s burdens.
Jesus did not command His apostles merely to teach people everything He had said. He commanded them to teach people to obey everything He had commanded. Leaders therefore help people move through a formative process:
hearing → understanding → practicing → reflecting → embodying
This requires biblical teaching.It also requires modeling, participation, and repetition. These must be joined with correction, feedback, and real-life application.
Practices do not transform people through their own power. God transforms through the Holy Spirit. Yet biblical practices help believers become increasingly available and responsive to His work.
The question is not merely: Did we teach it clearly? It is also: Are people learning to live it?
The New Testament does not portray the church as an audience gathered around a few gifted ministers. It portrays the church as a body. Every member belongs. Everyone receives and contributes. Every member needs the others. (Ephesians 4:16)
Leaders therefore cultivate a church in which believers increasingly minister to one another:
They pray for one another.
They encourage one another.
They teach and admonish one another.
They bear burdens.
They practice hospitality.
They restore those who stumble.
They exercise gifts for the common good.
They participate together in the mission of Jesus.
This does not diminish leadership roles. It fulfills their purpose. According to Ephesians 4, leaders equip the saints for the work of ministry so that the whole body grows and builds itself up in love. A healthy church is not merely a church with strong leaders. It is a church with a strong, mutually ministering body.
Control seeks to retain responsibility. Stewardship seeks to fulfill responsibility. Sometimes fulfilling responsibility means carrying it faithfully. Sometimes it means placing it into the hands of others.
Healthy leaders do not do indefinitely for people what those people can gradually learn to do with others.
They provide vision.
They model.
They invite participation.
They offer feedback.
They correct mistakes.
They increase responsibility as wisdom and faithfulness grow.
People are not empowered merely because leaders announce that they are empowered. They are empowered when leaders provide: vision, modeling, practice, feedback, and entrustment. This is how Jesus formed His disciples. It is how the apostles raised leaders. It is how the life of the church moves beyond a small center and spreads through the body.
Leadership should continually ask: Are we forming people who can act faithfully under Christ’s leadership, or are we training them to wait for us?
Entrusting others does not mean abandoning oversight. Biblical leadership is neither controlling nor passive.
Leaders teach sound doctrine.
They correct serious error.
They protect vulnerable people.
They confront abuse.
They preserve unity.
They respond when spiritual authority is misused.
They shepherd those who are weak, wounded, immature, or wandering.
But biblical guarding and unhealthy control are not the same. Biblical guarding protects people as they grow. Unhealthy control prevents them from taking the responsibility through which growth occurs.
Guarding establishes wise boundaries. Control replaces personal discernment.
Guarding intervenes when real danger arises. Control intervenes whenever leadership cannot predict or manage the outcome.
Guarding allows people to make ordinary mistakes and learn from them. Control treats every mistake as proof that responsibility should never have been entrusted.
Guarding seeks maturity. Control preserves dependence.
The goal of shepherding is not to keep people perpetually beneath leadership’s decision-making. It is to help them grow into Christlike wisdom, faithfulness, and responsibility.
Reproducibility and multiplication are closely related, but they are not identical. Reproducibility asks: Can this be passed on? Multiplication asks: Is it actually being passed on?
Reproducibility shapes design. Multiplication shapes direction, priority, and expectation.
A reproducible ministry creates tools that ordinary believers can understand and use. A multiplying ministry intentionally develops people who will use those tools to help others follow Jesus.
Reproducibility creates the possibility of transfer. Multiplication requires actual entrustment and movement.
A church may possess simple, excellent, reproducible resources while remaining centralized. The resources can be passed on, but leadership never truly releases people to carry them forward. Nothing multiplies.
Multiplication changes the instinct of leadership. Instead of asking only: How can we do this well? Leaders begin asking: Whom are we preparing to carry this forward? Instead of measuring success only by attendance or participation, they ask:
Who is growing into responsibility?
Who is helping another person follow Jesus?
Who is learning to lead?
Who is starting another group?
Where is the life of Christ spreading through ordinary believers?
Multiplication is not merely another program or numerical goal. It is the fruit of mature formation.
A disciple increasingly becomes able to help form another disciple.
A leader raises another leader.
A group gives birth to another group.
The life and mission of Jesus move through successive generations of people.
Reproducibility is the capacity to pass something on. Multiplication is the intentional and actual passing on of the life and mission of Jesus.
A disciple-forming philosophy does not require churches to eliminate programs, large gatherings, or paid staff. Nor does it reject specialized ministries or trained leaders. These can all serve valuable purposes. The question is what they are designed to produce. Do they become destinations upon which people remain permanently dependent? Or do they become formation environments where people learn, practice, contribute, and eventually strengthen others?
An outreach event can be a valuable practice field. But it should not communicate that mission happens only when the church schedules it. It should help believers observe, participate, and reflect. It should also help them gain courage and increasingly live on mission in everyday life.
A small group should not become merely another meeting people attend. It should become an apprenticeship community where people learn, practice, and pray together. They also reflect, care for one another, obey Jesus, and participate in His mission.
A teaching ministry should not merely accumulate listeners. It should form people who can understand Scripture, obey it, and help others do the same.
The movement is not: programs → no programs > It is: programs as destinations → programs as formation environments
The movement is not: leadership → no leadership > It is: control-centered leadership → stewardship-centered leadership
The movement is not: oversight → independence > It is: permanent dependence → mature participation under Christ
This philosophy changes how leadership evaluates success. Attendance, giving, and participation can reveal important realities. So can volunteer involvement and numerical growth.
But they cannot tell us by themselves whether the church is being built wisely upon Christ.
A church can grow numerically while remaining spiritually dependent.
It can have excellent meetings while everyday obedience remains weak.
It can recruit many volunteers while few believers know how to disciple another person.
It can appear active while meaningful responsibility remains concentrated in a few hands.
A Christ-centered philosophy asks deeper questions:
Are people increasingly seeing and treasuring Jesus?
Are they practicing His way in ordinary life?
Are they becoming grounded in Scripture?
Are they learning to depend upon the Holy Spirit?
Are they ministering meaningfully to one another?
Are they taking faithful initiative?
Are they becoming trustworthy with greater responsibility?
Are they participating in the mission of Jesus?
Are they helping others grow?
Is the life of Christ multiplying through them?
The measure of leadership is not merely what leaders personally accomplish. It is what the whole body increasingly becomes capable of doing together under the leadership of Jesus. The fruit of leadership is not how much ministry leaders can personally sustain, but how many disciples are becoming capable of helping make disciples.
Looking back, I no longer see only a collection of isolated leadership frustrations. I see the consequences of building according to a leader-centered, control-dependent philosophy. In those environments, leaders unintentionally became bottlenecks. Ministry depended upon their initiative. Growth depended upon their teaching. New ideas depended upon their approval.
Potential leaders remained underdeveloped because few pathways existed for meaningful participation, feedback, and entrustment. This was not usually caused by selfish ambition. Often it came from sincere leaders reproducing the only model they had ever known. They had been formed through centralized leadership, so they reproduced centralized leadership. They had learned primarily in classrooms, so they tried to form others primarily through classrooms. They had seen ministry performed mainly by pastors and paid staff, so it seemed natural for ministry to continue flowing mainly through pastors and paid staff.
This is why leaders need a compelling vision of another way. They need to see that releasing responsibility is not neglect. Shared ministry is not disorder. Grassroots growth is not rebellion. Small beginnings are not insignificant. Entrusting others does not weaken leadership. It fulfills leadership.
The goal is not to remove leaders from the center and leave a vacuum. The goal is to restore Jesus to the center and allow leaders to take their proper place beneath Him. They are not the source of the church’s life. Christ is. They are not the only ministers. The whole body ministers. They are not called to carry everything. They are called to build wisely, guard faithfully, and equip intentionally. They must also entrust responsibility with care.
This entire series asks one governing question: If Jesus truly is the governing center, what does this reality reshape? In this article, the answer is clear: It reshapes the foundation, purpose, and posture of church leadership. It also transforms how leadership is practiced.
Leaders are not called primarily to build larger ministries, preserve institutional control, or become the indispensable center of church life.
They are called to build wisely upon Jesus Christ.
They keep Christ continually before His people.
They teach for embodied obedience.
They cultivate a mutually ministering body.
They entrust meaningful responsibility.
They shepherd and guard the flock.
They cultivate multiplication through ordinary disciples.
The church should not become merely the place where ministry happens. It should become the spiritual family where people are continually formed to minister everywhere.
Leadership fulfills its calling not when people remain dependent upon leaders to initiate and sustain their Christian lives, but when they become increasingly dependent upon Christ. They are rooted in Scripture, responsive to the Holy Spirit, and deeply connected to His body. They also become capable of helping others follow Him.
The deepest question facing church leadership is therefore not: How can we maintain control over everything that happens? It is: How can we faithfully build upon Christ while forming His people to live under His leadership?
The work of leadership is not to do all the ministry. It is to ensure that the whole church is being built upon Christ while increasingly participating in His ministry. That is the pattern we see in Jesus.
He taught.
He modeled.
He invited participation.
He permitted weakness to surface.
He corrected.
He restored.
He entrusted.
He sent.
He did not form disciples by eliminating every possibility of failure. He formed them by remaining present as they learned obedience through participation.
Biblical leadership therefore refuses both careless independence and permanent dependence. It offers something better:
It requires a sure foundation, faithful stewardship, and biblical formation. It also depends upon progressive entrustment, wise shepherding, and Spirit-empowered multiplication.
The calling of church leadership is not to control the life of the body. It is to build wisely upon Christ so that the whole body grows up into Him.
